Sn-oh balls!

Not really in the Christmas spirit!

I particularly like the bit about the crowd chant – truly bizarre.  This guy probably lives life by the maxim ‘what would Jack Bauer do?’

It’s a more or less daily comic by latter day renaissance man Kris Straub.  I’d say he bangs each strip out in about five minutes, but it’s funny stuff.  Add it to you daily timewaste routine, you timewasters.

It’s an older code, sir, but it checks out

Whew! Managed to upgrade to WP 2.8 without breaking everything.  I was using an old WP installation and had missed a couple of upgrades, so it was a bit messy – apparently it can be done automatically from now on though, which rocks.

The only thing that I can’t get work anymore is the ol’ randomiser button that used to be in the top left corner there – anyone who might have an idea how to get it working again give me a shout!

Downtime

The site seems to have some big problems right now – I’m having lots of trouble with my WordPress dashboard – not able to upload/make changes to posts… it nearly took as long to get this weeks comic to publish as it did to draw it, which is hugely frustrating!

The site seems to also to be very slow to respond at times as well, and it seems a bit random as to when it decides to work or not – I’ve logged delays of over 30 seconds in serving a page in some cases.  If you’ve been experiencing delays I can only apologise and thank you for your patience.  Based on previous experience, my site is hosted on a troublesome shared server.  It was fixed briefly but it’s back to it’s old tricks again it seems.

There’s also the  possibility that some malicious code has squeaked in under the radar – there have been a few reports recently of sophisticated spambots targetting wordpress blogs, and I’ve even had to delete a false admin account that had been created remotely on my blog control panel a couple of weeks ago.   The upshot of all of this is that I’m going to take some time this weekend to try and upgrade wordpress and restore older backup templates where possible.  The upshot of that is FtB might be unavailable for a few hours over the next few days, or if I really screw up (I am rubbish at the internet!), the next few weeks!  Ah no, hopefully it won’t come to that…

Fingers crossed!
